U of T hosts one of the world’s leading bioethics centres, recognized for improving care, research, ethics and global public health.

The Joint Centre for Bioethics (JCB) is a network of more than 180 multidisciplinary professionals who improve health-care standards locally, nationally and internationally. As a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Bioethics, the Centre’s faculty and alumni play a vital role globally in planning and responding to pandemics, most recently during the West African Ebola epidemic.

The JCB celebrated its 20th anniversary in December 2015. Its affiliated faculty, students, ethics practitioners, scholars and alumni are making significant contributions toward tackling complex health system challenges, such as physician assisted death, end-of-life care, priority setting, new technologies and, increasingly, primary and community care ethics.
