The Student Engagement Officer Program was created in 2016 to build a dialogue between the University of Toronto and its alumni community. This intimate interaction between current students and alumni provides an opportunity for alumni to be invited back to campus to share their experiences and memories, and ensure that U of T continues to play a meaningful role in their lives.

Students will walk alumni through present day activities that improve and impact the student experience. Engagement opportunities include student mentorship programs, student recruitment, participating in events and lifelong learning opportunities through MOOCs, and philanthropy.

MEET OUR STUDENT ENGAGEMENT OFFICERS

Nicole

I am a Master's student studying at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education in the Department of Leadership, Higher and Adult Education. I came to the University of Toronto, for my undergraduate degree, as well as my master's degree, in search of an institution that would challenge me, as well as allow me to explore my interests freely. As a Student Engagement Officer, I am eager to connect alumni with the University, in hopes of providing alumni with opportunities to enrich their connection to the institution and form meaningful, lasting ties. I have personally benefited from the kindness and mentorship of alumni and hope that I can play a role in helping more enable more students to do likewise by helping find and engage more alumni supporters.

Andrew

I am a fourth year student pursuing a double major in Human Biology and Psychology at the University of Toronto Scarborough. I have been actively involved on campus, through various initiatives over the years. Notably, I was a panelist for undergraduate student educational experience with the Office of the Provost where we discussed strengths and improvements of our current institution. One of my goals here was to bring to light the community that alumni experience after graduation. As a Student Engagement Officer, I am excited to be apart of the ongoing work of re-engaging former students with the university. U of T is not simply a reputable institution, but a place for real growth, self-expression and building meaningful relationships that will last a lifetime.

Annie - Student Engagement Officer

Annie

I am a fourth-year Rotman Commerce student pursuing a Public Accounting specialist and Economics minor. As an international student, originally from South Korea and China who came to U of T in search of academic challenges and better opportunities for my future, U of T has been a wonderful experience for me for the variety of extracurricular opportunities on campus, quality of academia, and the diverse community that it offers. As a returning Student Engagement Officer in her final year, I would like to complete my efforts in helping alumni reconnect to the University and show them how to get the most out of their lifelong relationship with their alma mater.

Willow

I am a second year University College student pursuing a specialist in Human Geography with a Planning focus, and a double minor in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Urban Studies. Coming from a small town on the West Coast where opportunities are limited, the University of Toronto has been an unparalleled space for learning, exploring my interests, and drawing inspiration from peers, professors, and alumni alike. My first year at the University was one of tremendous personal growth, and I have come to realize and appreciate that no two university experiences are the same. As a Student Engagement Officer, I look forward to connecting with alumni, listening to their unique stories from their time here, and exploring how they can reengage with the University of Toronto in a meaningful way.

Zoe

I am a third year Neuroscience major, with a minor in Psychology and Anthropology. Beyond school, I practice self-defence and enjoy playing the pianos at Hart House. The diverging paths that alumni take after their time at U of T fascinate me and the SEO program is a chance for me to learn from them and explore where I can go with my own degree. Alumni and their experiences play a valuable role in enriching the U of T community. As an SEO, I want to help alumni find what is important to them at U of T and connect them to their interests and passions.

Michael

I am a fourth-year Victoria College student pursuing a double major in Environmental Studies and Diaspora and Transnational Studies and a minor in Drama. Through these diverse programs and my involvement with student-run groups, I have had the privilege of meeting and learning alongside alumni from a broad range of disciplines. This has included co-hosting panels with alumni in the journalism industry and corresponding with University College alumni who have submitted creative works to on-campus literary journals. As a Student Engagement Officer, I am keen to support the university’s ambition of re-engaging with its former students. I know firsthand how valuable the support of alumni can be to current students and I firmly believe that U of T’s exceptional academic standing and vibrant student life can likewise provide rewarding benefits to its former students.
