It is critical that OISE creates a more diverse student body so that emerging teachers and researchers reflect the communities they are trained to serve. To meet this challenge, OISE established The Graduate Teacher Education Fund to provide scholarships for underrepresented, visible minority and Indigenous students. Charitable donations to this important Fund will help to ensure:
- the brightest and best students, no matter what their background, have access to higher education
- all OISE students benefit from a better student experience as they will interact with a much richer and diverse student body
“Financial support for young Indigenous students in particular grants a sense of freedom that allows us to focus all of our energy on being the best students we can be. Having faced the difficulty of juggling several part time jobs to help cover the costs of tuition throughout my first year of the program, I know that the absence of this pressure will make an incredible difference in the lives of students.
Funding is more than financial support to help students complete their studies. It is proof that there are people within and beyond our communities that are advocating for us and are fighting for our success. This motivates us to work hard to prove that an investment in us will go a long way. Having been given an award myself, I will continue to dedicate my life to serving my community and to creating opportunities for the next generation, the way this award has done for me.” -Aliesha Arndt, MEd 2017
