President Gertler sees a bright future in Uber’s investment in the Vector Institute, in a recent article in The Globe and Mail

The news that Uber will open an Advanced Technologies Group, to be housed in Toronto’s new Vector Institute and led by U of T Professor Raquel Urtasun, has prompted critics to worry that Canada is losing talent to multinationals. U of T President Meric Gertler explains why partnering with large technology companies will strengthen U of T’s and Canada’s position. He writes, “A thriving innovation ecosystem needs both homegrown startups and scale-ups, as well as knowledge-intensive multinationals investing locally in research and development.”
