University College was founded in the 1850s on the principles of openness and academic excellence. We continue to be a community of undergraduate students, distinguished alumni, dedicated staff, and faculty at the forefront of teaching and research. The centre and pride of our community is the magnificent University College building, an architectural masterpiece and National Historic Site which stands at the centre of the University of Toronto.
Throughout our 150-plus year history, UC has struck a balance between adapting to contemporary circumstances and preserving our rich heritage—an approach that has been key to our success. With the 21st century upon us, we must once again adapt in order to live out our founding values and meet the needs of our students.
Today’s students need an education that encourages open inquiry and creative thinking in order to succeed in an increasingly complex world. They need classrooms and study spaces that are appropriate for modern teaching and learning methods and technologies. And they need full access to our vibrant learning community, regardless of their financial background or physical limitations.
Our plan addresses the needs of our community by supporting innovative academic programs, revitalizing the historic UC building, and increasing scholarship support and standards of accessibility.
Our community rallied in support of UC after the devastating fire of 1890 and upon the threat of demolition in the 1970s. It is time for us to come together once again. Please join us in the campaign for University College. With your support, we can continue to provide the boundless education that prepares our students for boundless success.
